Our Mission
Cultivating wisdom, compassion and community
Our Vision
We aspire to share the Buddha’s path to contentment and freedom with all who seek it. We welcome people from all cultural, religious and non-religious backgrounds - including race, ethnicity, socio-economic class, sexual orientation, gender identity, age, education, and physical ability - to explore these transformational teachings with us, for the benefit of all beings.
Our Values
The teachings
Everything we offer at Auckland Insight is grounded in early Buddhist teachings, though it’s not necessary to be Buddhist to benefit from what we offer.
We acknowledge our connection to the worldwide network of Insight Meditation communities and respect the Asian lineages from which they arise.
We support the development of these teachings in our unique Aotearoa / New Zealand context.
We are committed to sharing our understanding of the transformational framework of the Four Noble Truths, which free the heart and mind from all forms of unsatisfactoriness, stress, distress and suffering.
This path to freedom is developed in daily life and through meditation methods such as mindfulness, insight or vipassanā practice, calm abiding or samathā, and the four heart practices of kindness, compassion, appreciative joy and equanimity, also known as the four brahmavihāra.
Ethical action
We are committed to non-harming and we aspire to live in accordance with the Five Ethical Training Precepts:
to refrain from killing living creatures and to practice compassionate action;
to refrain from taking that which is not given and to practice generosity;
to refrain from misusing our sexual energy in ways that cause harm, and to practice responsibility in all our relationships;
to refrain from harmful speech, and to practice kind speech
to refrain from the misuse of alcohol and drugs and to care for the body and mind.
Generosity or dana
We are committed to not charging for the teachings that we offer, to use the resources that are donated to us ethically and to do our best to make sure that the Buddha’s teachings are available to everyone regardless of financial circumstances.
